What air charter actually is
Air charter is the dedicated hire of a passenger aircraft for a specific group, route and schedule. The aircraft is yours for the rotation. The departure time, the cabin configuration, the catering and the ground handling are configured around the mission rather than a published timetable.
Air charter sits between two markets that often get confused with it. It is not the same as buying private jet seats on a per-flight basis, which is closer to a premium scheduled product. It is not the same as wet-leasing an aircraft into another carrier's operation, which is a longer-term commercial arrangement. Air charter is a dedicated movement for a defined group, on a defined route, on a defined day.
Aviall arranges air charter on aircraft from 8-seat executive jets through 50-80 seat regional turboprops, 150-220 seat narrow-bodies and 250-400+ seat wide-bodies. The right answer is rarely the biggest aircraft, it is the aircraft whose seat count, range, runway requirement and crew duty profile most closely match the mission.
