Sports Team Charter Flights

Teams usually charter for schedule and baggage control. A scheduled service fixes the departure time, baggage allowance and disruption options. That may not work when the fixture is fixed and the preferred departure is immediately after the match.

Charter puts the departure time where the schedule needs it, usually straight after the match, so the squad sleeps at home or at the next venue rather than losing a morning to travel. It keeps the group together, which matters for medical, performance and welfare staff who need access to players in transit. And it removes the equipment problem, because the aircraft is sized for the squad and its gear rather than for a public baggage allowance.

The other factor is predictability across a season. A fixture list is known months in advance, which means the travel can be structured as a program rather than repeatedly bought at short notice.

Sports charter has a specific set of constraints, and they are not the same as corporate group travel.

• Post-match departure windows, including late finishes and airport curfews
• Recovery time, arrival timing measured against the next session, not convenience
• Equipment and medical kit, hold volume, weight and loading time
• Squad plus staff numbers, players, coaching, medical, performance, media and officials
• Catering and nutrition, specific requirements, not standard airline service
• Seating and cabin layout, space for taller athletes and treatment where needed
• Result-dependent travel, finals, playoffs and knockout scenarios booked against outcomes

Where a season's away fixtures are known, we structure the travel as a program: the pattern of movements across the season, priced as a whole, with a defined basis for changes when the draw or broadcast schedule moves, which it does.

Finals are the harder problem, because the destination and the date depend on results. We plan those as contingency scenarios: identify the possible venues and windows in advance, hold the requirement, and confirm the actual movement as soon as the result is known. That is considerably better than starting the search on the Sunday night after qualification.

Aviall Group is not an aircraft operator. We source across a wide operator base and match aircraft to squad size, sector length, equipment volume and the airports involved.

Aircraft choice for sport is driven as much by hold capacity and cabin space as by seat count. A squad of 30 with substantial equipment sometimes needs a larger aircraft than the headcount implies.

Some engage us directly; others work through their travel manager or TMC, and we sit behind that arrangement providing the charter capability.

We do not name clients or reference specific organisations. Confidentiality around travel plans and squad movements is part of the service.
