What makes cargo 'oversized' in aviation terms
Oversized, or out-of-gauge, cargo is any consignment that exceeds the standard unit load device (ULD) envelope, or that cannot pass through a standard cargo door, or that exceeds the floor loading limit of a conventional freighter. It is a dimensional and structural classification, not simply a description of something large, a heavy but compact item can be out-of-gauge on floor loading alone, even if it would physically fit through a door.
