What does it mean to charter a cargo plane?
Chartering a cargo plane means hiring an entire freighter aircraft for a specific shipment, on a specific route, on a specific date. The aircraft is dedicated to one shipper for the duration of the mission. Unlike scheduled airfreight, where your shipment shares a freighter or passenger belly with hundreds of others, a charter is configured around your cargo and your timeline.
Customers charter cargo planes when scheduled freight cannot meet the requirement, typically because the cargo is too large, the route is not adequately served, the deadline is too tight, or the cargo type requires single-shipper handling. The aircraft is sized to the job, from regional jets carrying 20 tonnes through to outsize freighters carrying 120-tonne single pieces.
