    How oil and gas air charter works

    Oil and gas air charter is the dedicated hire of a freighter to move energy-sector cargo when surface transport is too slow, the destination is too remote, or a stalled operation is burning rig-rate by the day. It spans urgent drilling spares, complete blow-out preventers and wellhead equipment, mud pumps and process modules, and turbines and generator sets for power and commissioning.

    The economics are distinct. A drilling spread or offshore platform held on standby can cost more in a single day than the entire airlift. The charter is rarely the expensive line; the non-productive time it removes is where the value sits.

    Engineering before the aircraft is committed

    Energy cargo is heavy, frequently outsize, and bound for airports with limited infrastructure. A charter that arrives but cannot be unloaded has not solved the problem. Every Aviall energy mission completes the following before commitment:

    • Load planning and lashing design against the actual aircraft type and registration
    • Centre-of-gravity and floor-loading checks against the aircraft's load manual
    • Runway length, pavement classification and obstacle analysis at remote destinations
    • Ground-handling plan, cranes, loaders and forklift capacity at austere sites
    • Dangerous goods and customs documentation completed before the aircraft positions
    • Contingency airport and backup equipment identified before departure

    Common energy-sector cargo profiles

    Drilling operations charter urgent spares, drill-string components, mud pumps and BOP assemblies when a stalled rig makes air the only acceptable answer. Offshore support moves equipment to coastal staging points feeding platforms and vessels, often under weather windows that compress the schedule.

    Process and commissioning work moves skid-mounted modules, pipe racks, separators and instrumentation into onshore plants on tight start-up deadlines. Power generation charters turbines, generator sets and transformers, frequently the long-lead items that gate an entire facility coming online.

    The common thread is that the cargo is part of a project with a critical path. The aircraft is one element of a movement that includes the supplier, inland transport, the airport and the receiving site, often in a location with little margin for error.

    Remote and austere destinations

    Energy projects rarely sit next to a major airport. We complete pavement and obstacle analysis on every mission and select the aircraft to the strip, defaulting to types capable of operating into shorter, less infrastructure-rich runways where the destination demands it.

    We default to the right aircraft for the geometry and the route, not the largest available. A single urgent spare may move on a narrow-body freighter; an outsize module may require a nose-loader or ramp aircraft with on-board cranes. The discipline holds at every tier: engineer first, then fly.
