Queensland's resource aviation is multi-origin
Where Western Australian FIFO revolves around a single dominant origin, Queensland does not. Crews are drawn from Brisbane and the south east, from Townsville, Cairns, Rockhampton, Mackay and Toowoomba, and from interstate for contractor-heavy scopes. That changes the planning problem: often the question is not which aircraft, but from where.
The consequence is that consolidation matters. A single rotation collecting two crew groups on the way through can be materially cheaper than two aircraft, and the right origin mix is one of the biggest cost levers available in Queensland programs.
- Brisbane (BNE), largest single crew source, strong operator availability
- Townsville, Cairns, Mackay, Rockhampton, regional origins for locally sourced crews
- Toowoomba and Darling Downs, practical for Surat Basin scopes
- Interstate origins for contractor and specialist mobilisations
- Multi-stop consolidation where it beats running separate aircraft
